Community Development Block Grants (CDBG-DR)

What is CDBG-DR?

CDBG-DR is a program through HUD that provides flexible grants to help cities, counties, and states recover from disasters, especially in low-income areas.

In response to disasters, Congress may devote additional funding for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program as disaster recovery grants to rebuild the affected areas and provide money to start the recovery process.

Through CDBG disaster recovery (CDBG-DR) assistance, HUD helps communities and neighborhoods that otherwise might not recover due to limited resources.

NMA supports the National Community Development Association in their efforts to secure effective and responsive housing and community development programs for local governments. Visit our booth at the 2017 NCDA conference.

Case study:
CDBG-DR success story

As a subcontractor, Nan McKay & Associates ran one of the most successful CDBG-DR home buyer assistance programs in the country. We began administering the program in a Midwest City, in early 2014, and our team implemented highly successful operational efficiencies, enabling the city to provide more than $12 million of assistance for nearly 500 closings.
NMA successfully participated in recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina, assisting with the first implementation of the Disaster Housing Assistance Program (DHAP) throughout New Orleans and Texas.
