Fair Housing & Reasonable Accommodation

PURPOSE: Our Fair Housing and Reasonable Accommodation seminar has been completely revamped to give you expanded and updated content. The book is fully cited with statutes, HUD regulations, PIH notices, and HUD and Department of Justice (DOJ) guidance and makes an excellent reference document for your office.

As always, the Fair Housing and Reasonable Accommodation training is a comprehensive overview of all essential fair housing laws relevant to affordable housing. Recently added content areas include:

  • Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) 2013
  • Notice FHEO 2013-1, regarding assistance and service animals
  • HUD’s new Equal Access Rule
  • Notice 2012-31, which addresses implementation efforts to provide community-based housing options for persons with disabilities
  • Using your community's consolidated plan to affirmatively further fair housing, including conducting an analysis of impediments (AI)
  • Links to HUD’s non-smoking toolkit
  • Expanded material on Section 3, including compliance and enforcement, economic opportunities, recommended steps for implementation, and summary reports
  • Expanded tools, HUD forms, and sample PHA templates on CD

In the Fair Housing and Reasonable Accommodation seminar, participants gain practical knowledge through hands-on case study activities developed from current, real-life fair housing legal actions, recent HUD voluntary compliance agreements (VCAs), HUD regulations and notices, and fair housing audits.  Topics addressed in the class include:

  • Understanding the reasonable accommodation process
  • Preparing for HUD and FHEO civil rights monitoring, fair housing reviews, and complaint investigations
  • Complying with requirements and implementing best practices for VAWA
